For over 60 years Steel City Kennel Club (SCKC), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to purebred dogs, has advocated for responsible breeding and provided education to the public for various canine activities. Our members compete in conformation, obedience, agility, and serve those less fortunate with therapy work. Some members also volunteer with rescue organizations working to find homes for displaced purebred dogs.

Our spring all-breed conformation shows are always well attended with exhibitors enjoying the beauty of the fairgrounds while competing in the ring for Best in Show honors. One of our most popular activities is our education booth at the Lake County Fair. Members bring their dogs to the booth and provide education and guidance to the general public throughout the 10-day run of the Fair. Last fall, we sponsored our first educational seminar about the ABCâ™s of Breeding. Stay tuned to our website for more educational seminars coming soon.

We have many breeds represented in our club (see the membership page) and we welcome visitors interested in educating themselves and others about the sport of purebred dogs. We meet every month on the second Wednesday of the month at the Fred Schmidt Legion Post 20, 1401 N. Main Street, Crown Point, Indiana. If you are interested in becoming a member, we do require that you attend three monthly meetings (they do not necessarily need to be consecutive) followed by completion of our application form (link to application here). Contact any one of the officers, board members, or members for complete details about the joining the club.
